Cristina Comencini

Cristina Comencini was born in Rome in 1956, daughter of famous film director Luigi Comencini. After working as screenwriter, she started making films herself, and her films came out to great success. In addition to her career in the cinema, Cristina Comencini developed her talent as a fiction writer, and has published several novels and a theatre play. The film she made from her novel La bestia nel cuore won the Venice Festival and got an Oscar Nomination, while the book became a great Best Seller. Her novel L’illusione del bene has been shortlisted for the Premio Strega 2009.

Manfred and Marina meet in a mountain lodge. She is themother of a little boy, he is a mountain guide,a proud and taciturn man afterhis wife left him with their two children. Marina has rented the apartmentabove Manfred's to spend there a month's vacation with her son.

Manfred hears the little boy crying often, and startsobserving them both,aware of Marina's growing insecurity as a mother. One nightsomething happens in Marina's apartment. Manfred comes to rescue, takes thewounded boy to the hospital.

From that moment on the man tries to unveil the truth of adark situation Marina has kept hidden from everybody, even from her husband. Onher part, Marina guesses the family secret at the origin of Manfred's anger andhostility against her and all women.

Mario wants to find out a truth thatcould also be terrifyng and he flies to Russia in search of Irina following the few hints of herlife that he knows. Finally he finds Irina still alive and her story is amixture of tragedy and hope. Life goes on even as dreams are shattered. A novelof great strenght and courage.
